Day 1: Cotter girls use pressure defense to rout Lanesboro

The game was tied at ten early on, but the Cotter girls basketball team used a 27-6 to propel themselves to a 21-point halftime lead as they trounced Lanesboro 64-27 in the 29th Annual Lewiston Auto Warrior Club Tournament at McCown Gymnasium on Friday.

The Ramblers played a suffocating, pressure defense all night, which created turnovers and easy offensive opportunities, which they capitalized on throughout the game. Ten different players scored for Cotter (3-5), four in double figures, led by Kirsten Weifenbach with 12, Gabby Bowlin had 11, and Leah Koll and Beth Parlin each finished with 10.

Cotter only allowed five players to score for Lanesboro (4-5), and only 15 total points to anyone not named Oliva Haug, who accounted for 12 points and six rebounds on the night.

Mikala Nelton paced the Ramblers on the boards with five, followed closely by Kaylin Zukowski and Parlin with four apiece.
